    Brno

Brno is the second largest city in the Czech Republic, the largest Moravian city, and the historical capital of the Margraviate of Moravia. The city lies at the confluence of the Svitava and Svratka rivers and has about 400 000 inhabitants. It is the seat of a number of state authorities, e.g. the Constitutional Court, the Supreme Court, the Ombudsman or the Office for the Protection of Competition. Brno is also an important educational centre, with 34 faculties belonging to 14 university type institutions.

The city is famous by its trade fairs and exhibitions as it ranks among the largest exhibition centres in Europe. Brno also hosts motorbike and other races on the Masaryk Circuit, in which the Road Racing World Championship Grand Prix is the most prestigious one. The most visited sights include the Špilberk castle and fortress and the Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul on Petrov hill, two medieval buildings that dominate the cityscape and are the traditional symbols of Brno.
